【KITA】Every Small Act of Kindness Can Change a Child’s Future | Charity Events, Corporate CSR

In recent years, KITA has been actively engaged in charitable actions. From hands‐on work helping the “Waiting for Home Babies Association” (等家寶寶協會) with fruit & vegetable packing and farm activities, to organizing internal drives for collecting supplies — this is not only an expression of goodwill but a practice of responsibility.
By establishing a Charitable Donation Committee, institutionalizing CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and ESG ideals, KITA hopes to integrate “love and action” into everyday culture. Let’s see how they find warmth and connection with society through various charitable participations, and convey a belief : Every small act of kindness can change a child’s future, illuminating their journey of growth.
Below is an interview with KITA’s General Manager, Mr. Chen Bing-Nan (陳秉男), sharing their experiences.
What led to the cooperation with the Waiting for Home Babies Association (等家寶寶協會) ?
GM Chen : We’ve always paid attention to social welfare and CSR. Last year we formally established a Charitable Donation Committee, aiming to more systematically plan and promote the company’s participation in public welfare. Our cooperation with the Waiting for Home Babies Association came about when the committee members, during an inventory of charitable resources and information gathering, discovered this meaningful ESG initiative. We agree with the Association’s philosophy, and it aligns well with our own social responsibility goals. After further meetings and understanding, we decided to commit resources, so that more KITA colleagues could support — in concrete ways — the children in orphanages.

Sharing the experience of participating in the Association’s activities
GM Chen : The「Packing Fresh Produce Boxes for Children」event was our first time physically participating in a charity event ; previously we mostly gave donations or goods.
On that day, our coworkers selected boxes, handled the produce, weighed, sealed, and labeled them. Only then did we deeply feel how each simple‐seeming action is related to whether orphanages will receive fresh, safe produce on time. This gave us a deeper sense of the link between food and love.

▲KITA partners participated in the “Packing Fresh Produce Boxes for Children” activity, carefully handling every step to ensure that children in orphanages could enjoy fresh, pesticide-free fruits and vegetables.
In the “Strawberry Picking” event, we had the opportunity to visit a farm collaborating with the Association, and donated all the strawberries we picked to orphanages. After work, staff also experienced making jam by hand. That pure sentiment and moment of returning to simpler things was wonderful. Many said it was not a typical corporate volunteer activity, but an opportunity to re‐discover what social responsibility means.
Both events made me truly realize that what may seem like a small thing can bring real help to the lives of children.

▲ During the “Strawberry Picking” activity, all strawberries harvested by KITA partners that day were donated to orphanages.
At first, only six committee members signed up; worried about manpower, we hastily asked four more caring colleagues to join. Everyone was assigned orders for different orphanages’ vegetable & fruit boxes. What looked like simple tasks — picking items, getting the right quantities, checking freshness — all required care.
We divided tasks, helped each other, had excellent teamwork. At the end we loaded box by box onto carts. Even though we were sweaty and a bit messy, we persisted until the end, because each box carried the important hope for the children’s healthy growth.
Though exhausting, it left us feeling full and moved.

▲ KITA partners divided tasks, supported one another, and persevered until the very end despite the hard work — because each produce box carried the vital hope for children’s healthy growth.
At the “Strawberry Picking” event — a charity effort involving the whole company — despite the steady drizzle, seeing coworkers bring their own children to help, seeing the smiles, the laughter of making jam, and that faint strawberry fragrance in the air — even when the weather wasn’t ideal, every smiling face was as radiant as sunshine.

▲ Even though the weather was unfavorable that day, KITA partners felt deeply gratified and touched to pick strawberries for charity.
Aside from cooperation with the Waiting for Home Babies Association, we also partner with several orphanage and charitable organizations. Through stable, seasonal donations of supplies, we aim to help children grow up without worrying about essentials.
Last summer, we also took part in a summer camp organized by the Bethel Holistic Care Association. Seeing the children confidently perform on stage, learn earnestly, live passionately — these touching scenes deepened our feeling that ESG is not just corporate responsibility, but something full of meaning.
Continuing this spirit of care and action, at the start of this year we launched an internal drive to collect supplies — asking employees to donate clothes, bags, shoes, and books that they no longer use but are still in good condition, so that these resources go to those truly in need. Ultimately, we collected seven large boxes of clothing, bags and shoes, all donated to “Xinyi Used Clothes Recycling” (心怡舊衣回收), contributing to environmental sustainability and social resource reuse.
Another eight boxes of books were given to a second‐hand bookstore; after sale, all proceeds were donated to the Sunshine Foundation, supporting burn injury and facial disfigurement patients in rehabilitation and life reconstruction. This activity — with enthusiastic participation from all colleagues — not only showed team unity, but also let us see again: every small act of kindness can aggregate into power to change society.
We are currently planning to deepen cooperation with the Waiting for Home Babies Association : for example regular “adoption” of produce boxes, support for children’s living needs, and possibly organizing Employee Volunteer Days, so more colleagues can personally participate in companionship activities.
Additionally, we are evaluating expanding internal public welfare participation in other ways — establishing charitable leave days, encouraging employees to regularly engage in volunteer service — hoping to make public welfare a part of company culture, so love and action continue to be passed forward. In future, whenever possible, we hope to walk with more children through every stage of their growth with concrete actions.
Because our Charitable Donation Committee is embedded within the company (not an independent foundation), all committee members are company employees who take on these tasks in addition to their usual responsibilities. They have to invest extra time and effort to plan and execute various charitable undertakings.
The annual charity budget is set according to the company’s operating performance each year, allocating a fixed proportion for charitable funds. So we must balance public welfare resources with other business demands.
How to ensure that every budgeted dollar has maximum impact is especially important when we hope to provide continuous and stable support for orphanage children — this requires careful planning and ongoing adjustments.
For example, in the “Strawberry Picking” event, we hoped to invite all employees to participate in the charity action. But organizing a large‐scale event means not just the event content itself, but considerations such as transportation, meals, and so on. Because the Charitable Donation Committee’s budget can only cover donations (in accounting terms), expenses like transport and meals cannot be directly claimed. That was a challenge.
For KITA, public welfare is not just one‐off donations or events, but part of our corporate culture. We hope to provide stable and continual support for disadvantaged groups, especially for the healthy growth and future development of orphanage children.
As long as a company plans with care and invests sincerely, no matter the size, every action can plant seeds of kindness in employees and beneficiaries alike, and the influence will continue to spread.
Each of you is unique, a shining existence.
Although there may be challenges and difficulties on your path of growth, please believe that these experiences will become part of your strength.
In your hearts, you always hold infinite possibilities. As long as you hold hope and move forward bravely, you will be able to walk your own wonderful life path.
Also, know that not only your teachers or caretakers, but many uncles and aunts in society are silently caring about you, believing in your ability to chase dreams and create your future.
May you always carry a smile and confidence, bravely love, dream, and accomplish the world you most want!

Moments or stories from the events that were especially moving ?
GM Chen : The “Packing Fresh Produce Boxes” is particularly memorable because it was our first time working together with the Waiting for Home Babies Association. At first, only six committee members signed up; worried about manpower, we hastily asked four more caring colleagues to join. Everyone was assigned orders for different orphanages’ vegetable & fruit boxes. What looked like simple tasks — picking items, getting the right quantities, checking freshness — all required care.

After it was over, coworkers joked, “This is more exhausting than our production line!”
Though exhausting, it left us feeling full and moved.

Are there any other charity actions or cooperation plans in the works ?
GM Chen : After participating in these events, we are even more convinced that corporate power can bring profound and positive impact. We always hope that this care is not a one-time effort but can accompany children’s growth journey steadily over time.Aside from cooperation with the Waiting for Home Babies Association, we also partner with several orphanage and charitable organizations. Through stable, seasonal donations of supplies, we aim to help children grow up without worrying about essentials.

What challenges have been encountered in implementing these activities ?
GM Chen : The main challenges are in budget allocation and human resources planning.Because our Charitable Donation Committee is embedded within the company (not an independent foundation), all committee members are company employees who take on these tasks in addition to their usual responsibilities. They have to invest extra time and effort to plan and execute various charitable undertakings.

Key factors believed to be most important when promoting charity and ESG initiatives ?
GM Chen : We believe that a company’s success comes not only from financial performance, but also from taking responsibility toward society. Continual investment in charity and practicing the ESG spirit — for us, it is not just a “choice,” but a “must.”For KITA, public welfare is not just one‐off donations or events, but part of our corporate culture.
